It’s almost exactly a week away now. *takes a deep breath*

Things are actually coming together nicely. I have figured out a plan that will help to keep me on track so that I don’t fall behind on the daily word goal. I’m still working on my character profiles and have completed my chapter outlines.

I found an awesome piece of software that I’m using to get ready for Nanowrimo and I’ll use it throughout as well. It’s called Scrivener. I found it over on the WriMos FTW Blog. I know everybody plans and writes differently, but I think this piece of writing software may just save me this time around. It keeps everything organized and easy to find. You should also check out that blog. I’ve found a lot of helpful writing advice there.

I finished my Halloween story and am still in the process of fixing that up which is a lot of fun. I don’t know how most people feel about revising and editing, but I absolutely love it. I admit, sometimes I do go a little overboard and take too long but I just really enjoy it. It’s my second favorite part about writing.

We’re getting close now.

Nanowrimo Update

The more I think about Nanowrimo, the more nervous I get. I need to write around, what was it, 1,677 words a day to meet the 50,000 words by the end of the month? I keep thinking of everything else that I have going on in November and how I’m going to work around it. I guess that’s part of the challenge, though, isn’t it?

Because I’m a little list crazy…

Things I have to do in November:

  • I start care giving classes for a week on Halloween. Those will take up most of my day and then I have to work on top of that.
  • I’m having my wisdom teeth out in the middle of the month.
  • There’s a concert in another city I’m trying to go to and that will mean two days away from my computer.
  • Thanksgiving.
  • Maybe start planning for a possible move to another city.

Of course, all of these things will interfere with Nanowrimo. I’ll just have to plan my time off very carefully. Some days, I may have to write double the words in order to make up for days I wont be near my computer.

I really wish my laptop would work! That would makes things just a teensy bit easier. I actually may be able to get it running before I have to go anywhere. Regardless, I’m determined to finish this year. I’ll keep a log on here of my progress to keep myself on track. I think next week I’ll start planning for the days when I have to write extra. It will be easier to plan my time when it gets closer.

I completed my chapter outline! Now I just have to start on my character profiles, which really wont be that difficult. I have had these characters in mind for quite some time now and even written them in some short stories. I’ve gotten to know them pretty well. It’s weird how fictional characters that you create can seem so alive at times. I still want the profiles all written up for consistency. My story jumps around a bit and I want to keep track of everyone as best I can.

13 days!

Nanowrimo is just around the corner and I am going to take it seriously this time around. I have attempted it several times in the past. Each time, I went in throwing aimless punches. I had no idea what I was writing. I just assumed it would come to me. Now, after several times of no plotting, character sketches, or really any sort of planning at all, I think I’ve finally learned my lesson. Being prepared for this type of thing is a good idea!

This year, I am determined to finish. I’m in planning mode (what that consists of exactly, I’ve yet to find out). I have an actual plot idea and am working on an outline. I’m not sure if this particular method will work wonderfully for me or not, but I’m going to go with it. I don’t think I need to go overboard in the planning. A simple chapter outline, maybe, and some character sketches should suffice.

Things I am doing/preparing for:

I feel like there’s so much to do and not nearly enough time to do any of it! I love writing so much. I just want to start sharing my love of it with others who feel the same.
